SASMO

Who We Are

The Save Somali Marginalized and Minorities Organization (SASMO) is a non-political, non-partisan and non-profit humanitarian and development minority-led Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that was founded by a group of intellectuals from the marginalized and minority communities. SASMO seeks to empower the marginalized and minority groups in Somalia, advocate for their rights and improve the living standards and conditions of these communities through humanitarian and development interventions while ensuring their inclusion and participation in the humanitarian, development and public life from which they are often excluded.

Our Programs and Activities

Protection and human rights

The most vulnerable and exposed communities to human rights and protection-related incidents are attributed to the marginalized and minority communities because they are susceptible to these incidents because of their socio-economic, legal and political standing in the society at large.

Education

Most of the Somali children who happen to miss education and do not go to school come from the marginalized and minorities due to lack of financial capacities of their families and the families’ dependence on their children for income generation through exploitive child labour.

Health and Nutrition

SASMO’s health and nutrition programs are aimed at providing health and nutrition services to the affected populations including the marginalized and minorities who happen to be beset most by high prevalence of communicable diseases and alarming rates of acute malnutrition due to poor access to governmental and non-governmental humanitarian and development assistance.

Vision

Empowered marginalized and minority communities with an unimpeded and equal access to humanitarian and development assistance, participation in public and political life and improved standards of living conditions.

Mission

SASMO undertakes humanitarian and development advocacy and support activities aimed at participation and improving the socio-economic and psychosocial conditions of marginalized and minority communities through service provision of protection and human rights, advocacy and communication, livelihoods and food security, health and Nutrition, WASH, education as well as psychosocial interventions by forming partnerships with like-minded organizations in the humanitarian and development sectors in Somalia.

Philosophy

Save Somali Marginalized and Minorities Organization (SASMO) believes that all human beings, under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, have equal rights and deserve to live with dignity regardless of their race, culture, ethnicity, religion and political beliefs, and that no one should be subjected to marginalization and discrimination because of their identities, population size and social status in the society.
