What We Do

Protection and Human Rights

The most vulnerable and exposed communities to human rights and protection-related incidents are attributed to the marginalized and minority communities because they are susceptible to these incidents because of their socio-economic, legal and political standing in the society at large.

Advocacy and Communication

SASMO undertakes a wide range of advocacy and communication activities aimed at raising awareness on minority participation and inclusion, and formulation of policies and legal frameworks on minority participation in political and public life as well as humanitarian and development inclusion for minorities.

Mental health and Psychosocial Support

Over 50% of victims and survivors of violence and traumatic experiences in Somalia come from the vulnerable communities particularly the minorities and the marginalized, and many of these incidents go unreported or unaddressed because of fear of social stigma or reprisals by perpetrators.

Education

Most Somali children who miss out on education and do not attend school come from marginalized and minority communities. This is largely due to the limited financial capacity of their families and the reliance on children for income generation through exploitative child labour.

To send these children to education facilities, SASMO will work to provide education to these children in partner with the education cluster and agencies working in education and ensure their enrolment at schools while supporting local schools to promote education for all.

Health and Nutrition

SASMO’s health and nutrition programs aim to deliver essential services to affected populations, with a particular focus on underserved communities. These groups are disproportionately burdened by the high prevalence of communicable diseases and alarming rates of acute malnutrition, stemming from limited access to both governmental and non‑governmental humanitarian and development assistance.

Livelihoods and Food Security

SASMO implements livelihoods and food security interventions through resilience-building and coping mechanisms strategies; thus enabling the marginalized and minorities to have ensured access to livelihoods and food security assistance
